Website Development

2024

This project was highly integral to my learning journey. AshSym is a national-level symposium organized by our college in 2024. I was one of the student coordinators for the event and was in charge of the social media communication and marketing division.

The head faculty coordinator expressed the need for an attractive and eye-catching website to promote the event and handle student registrations. Recognizing this as a valuable learning opportunity, I gladly volunteered. I strongly believe that the best way to learn new tools and technologies is by building real-world projects using them.

Planning

Once I received approval to create the website, I immediately began planning its development. After a brief brainstorming session, I decided that the tech stack would include:

However, there was one major challenge — I was a complete beginner in React. By beginner, I mean someone with little understanding of even basic functions.

But this was not the time to hesitate. The entire college was eagerly awaiting the website launch, so without further delay, I began working on the project.

Getting Started

I first learned how to set up a basic React.js environment. Fortunately, the setup process was straightforward, and I was able to grasp it quickly.

The real challenge began afterward. There were numerous new terminologies, concepts, and functions that were entirely unfamiliar to me. Understanding and remembering how each component worked was difficult.

I referred to a few basic tutorials for guidance, but diving into a full-scale project almost immediately felt overwhelming. However, I strongly believe that we must seize the opportunities presented to us and make the most of them.

So I persisted — initializing states, variables, components, and gradually building the application step by step.

Workflow

The journey felt like a roller coaster ride — filled with ups and downs, struggles and small victories (more struggles than victories, honestly). Working in a development environment I was unfamiliar with was far from easy.

However, I believe that failures are essential to mastering any skill. Many learners struggle when transitioning from theoretical knowledge to practical implementation, and some give up during that phase.

This experience reinforced my belief that learning becomes significantly more effective when applied through a real project. That ideology is widely embraced by developers and builders alike.

Ultimately, this project greatly strengthened my understanding of React.js, while also improving my adaptability, flexibility, and problem-solving skills.

Conclusion

This project took approximately one week to complete. I was genuinely proud of the final result. The staff and student coordinators approved the website, and it was implemented the very next day.

I received positive feedback from both teachers and students. This project not only contributed to the success of the event, but also played a significant role in strengthening my confidence and technical foundation.

The biggest takeaway from this experience is simple: Learning something new comes with challenges, but staying motivated and working consistently toward the end goal provides immense satisfaction and growth.
